Lionel 629 Burlington GE Middle Cab Switcher W/ OB Picture(s) and Description:

Lionel

Up for bidding is a Lionel Burlington GE 44 Ton Middle Cab Switcher, manufactured by Lionel in 1956 only. Some people think that the Baltimore and Ohio 44 Ton unit is hard to come by. We have always thought that it is the Burlington 44 ton unit that is hardest because of the silver paint that Lionel used. You see them at train shows but they are often so worn you don't want them. Everyone knows what that silver was like on these trains. It was often faded or rubbed off after some use. So the Burlington 44 Ton unit with excellent silver paint is a tougher unit to find in our opinion. Here is you chance to put a nice 629 into your collection. With nice overall paint and an original box, with original inserts, this can be the one for your collection. The unit has nice silver on the cab. The red stripe is very nice on one side and the other side shows a only the slightest wear towards the bottom edge at one end. The red frame has a little area of missing paint at the keeper tabs. This area is about the size of a pea on each tab. Because of the missing paint there is some minor oxidation on one tab end and is not offensive. The very top of the cab has some box rubs that are very minor and not awful. The unit has been tested for F-N-R as were the couplers and all checked out A-okay. There are no major cracks, scratches, chips or dents. There is a tight crack at the cab screw hole(see picture). One logo is very nice and the other logo shows the slightest wear. The box is nice with no writing on the outside of the box. Both end flaps are present. One end has both tabs and the other end is missing one tab. There is a slight tear on the end with both tabs. The inserts are original and crisp looking. There is a little toffee looking substance on one side of the box is a small streak about 1/4" wide and 1" long. I tested it and it came off clean without tearing the box. We will leave it up to the new owner to decide to take the remainder off. Overall this unit is not one to back away from. It has been described to let you know what is there and sounds much worse that it is on the eyes. I think you would be very happy with this engine added to complete or upgrade your 44 ton switchers. Check out the pictures. We will get the best shots of the engine as possible with or without flash. Thank you for looking and good luck. Thank you for viewing our listing. We do combine shipping.
