This auction is for an extremely scarce and all original postwar Lionel Giant Brakeman Swinging Lantern Dealer Display in Very Good (+) condition; shows signs of window fading and handling. This 1952 operating cardboard display was manufactured by Lionel and distributed exclusively to authorized Lionel dealers. Pictured below is the 1952 catalog where this display first appeared; (catalog not for sale with this piece - for reference only). The display measures 36.5" tall by 21.5" wide, came folded in the middle and was equipped with a cardboard stand. The head and mid-sections of the display are still attached but have been reinforced with Lionel packing tape. The swinging lantern is operated by a "D" cell battery. The battery operated mechanism is original to this display and worked when powered by a Lionel 12 volt DC slot car transformer . . . I didnt have a D Cell battery on hand to test it. This is NOT the more common 1996 reproduction by RGS Co.
